A school sweater is washed harder than almost any other knit. It is machine washed week after week, pulled on and off over a shirt every day, and still has to look tidy at assembly in the last term. Acrylic yarn carries most school programs because it holds its colour, resists pilling at the cuff and under the arms, and comes back from the wash the same shape it went in. Cotton blends give a softer hand, and a wool blend is available for colder climates.

The shade is booked against your swatch and held on file, with a sample of the approved yarn kept back, so the colour ordered for the new intake matches the sweaters knitted three years earlier.

The V-Neck Stripe Is Knitted Into the Band, Not Sewn On

The trim is what makes the sweater that school's sweater. The stripes on the V-neck band are knitted into the band, in your colours and your stripe order, so there is nothing to peel, crack or fade apart from the body. The band is mitred cleanly at the point of the V and lies flat. Crew neck styles carry the school colour as a single stripe or a plain band, matched to the same yarn file.

Cuffs and hems are ribbed into the garment, knitted in rather than sewn on, and sleeves are set in and linked stitch by stitch at the shoulder, so the sweater keeps a clean school line without a gathered seam.

Embroidered Crests Placed to Your Template, Alike on Every Size

The crest is embroidered directly onto the chest or supplied as a woven badge and stitched down, whichever your uniform book sets. Placement is taken from your template and the crest is scaled to the sweater, so the badge on an age 5 sweater and the badge on an adult size read as the same crest, not a small one stretched or a large one squeezed.

Thread colours are matched to your artwork before the sample is sewn, and the approved crest stays on file, so a reorder two years later is embroidered from the same file, in the same threads, in the same place.

A Neat School Fit With Room for a Shirt Underneath

The block is cut for school wear: room through the body for a shirt and tie underneath, a shoulder line that sits straight, sleeves long enough to reach the wrist with the cuff turned down, and a body length that covers the waistband without hanging past it. The fit is checked on the sample in the middle size and graded out from there, so the small sizes keep their shape.

The program runs from age 3 to 16 in children's sizes and continues into adult sizes XS to 3XL for sixth form and staff. UK outfitters grade this style by chest measurement in inches alongside the age size, and their programs are knitted size for size to those charts. A full size set is knitted, measured flat and approved before bulk production starts, so the size a parent orders this year fits the way it did last year.

The sweater leaves our floor as the school's own uniform item. Your woven name label sits at the back neck, with size and care wording in your format. Multi-school orders are kept apart through production and packed by school, then by size run, so a supplier serving twenty schools receives twenty clean deliveries, not one mixed pile to sort.
