Skirt cloth has to do two jobs at once: hold the shape at the waist and fall clean from the hip. Cotton twill gives the A-line its structure - a firm cloth with a fine diagonal face that presses well and keeps the flare. Plain woven cotton and rayon blends run lighter for summer shapes and for pleats, where the cloth has to fold sharp and stay folded. Single jersey with a small elastane content is the pencil skirt cloth: it follows the body, recovers at the seat and still reads as a skirt, not a legging.

Denim-look twill sits in the same library for ranges that want a denim read without a denim program. Every cloth is matte with the weave showing on the face, and the weight is set at sampling against the shape it has to carry.

A-Line, Pencil and Pleated Shapes from One Pattern Room

The core shapes are the A-line in midi and maxi lengths, the knee-length pencil with a centre back vent, and the knife-pleated skirt with pleats stitched down through the hip, released below it. Box pleats, wrap fronts and mini lengths run from the same blocks. Waistbands are fitted with a button and concealed zip, or elasticated at the back for pull-on comfort fits, and pockets are slanted at the front or hidden in the side seam.

Because the shapes share one pattern room, waist measurement, hip ease and hem finish agree across the program. A customer who buys the A-line in her size finds the same size waiting in the pencil - the detail that lets a retailer reorder a mixed range with confidence.
